Figuring out my next course of action
Today, I completed Brian Holt's "Intermediate React" course on Frontend Masters. This course covered some huge topics, like Redux, TypeScript, testing, and hooks, but without going into much detail at all. All of these topics piqued my interest, leaving me wanting for more, but JavaScript keeps calling me back. I've been working so hard on becoming proficient with JavaScript, and I just want to get to the point where I feel comfortable with it before getting back into React fully, or any other technology for that matter. I've also been thinking a lot about taking a course or two on NodeJS. I've done some work with Node so far, but I really haven't gone too deep with it, yet. There are also several CSS courses I would love to take to bring my CSS skills to the next level. At the end of the day, there are a lot of directions to go in, but the one true path right now seems to be JavaScript.
I'm running out of the top JavaScript courses on Frontend Masters that aren't taught by Kyle Simpson. While I know he is a great instructor, his style of teaching just hasn't jived with me, so far. I intend to give him a full try once I feel better about the fundamentals, but I just don't know if I'm ready yet. There are only two courses by my favorite instructor, Will Sentance, that I haven't taken: one on Object-oriented programming in JS, and one on Node. So, this evening I will dive fully into "JavaScript: The Hard Parts of Object-Oriented JavaScript." This should be a great delve into the harder concepts involved in OOP. I always gain a huge confidence boost in my skills after taking his courses; he does such a great job at explaining the concepts, and they just make so much more sense after taking his courses.
I've taken so many courses up until this point, but I've never gone back and taken a course for a second time. I'm starting to consider this as a viable move. There are concepts in earlier courses that I took which I didn't feel comfortable with at the time, but now that I have a better understanding may gain more than I did. I took a long course on JavaScript by Andrei Neagoie, but my JavaScript skills at that time were really undeveloped, and a lot of the topics, I sort of understood but not fully. I think if I went back to this course now, I would be able to grasp these concepts much easier. When I first started taking courses on Frontend Masters, I took an introductory JavaScript course by Kyle Simpson, and I found it to be much harder than I thought it would be. Now that I've taken several courses by Will Sentance, maybe this course would go a lot smoother. While I want to continue moving forward, sometimes the best course of action is to look back to see where I struggled and try and fill in the knowledge gaps.
Until tomorrow!
